6/6: Akechi

[ Whenever Akechi gets up in the morning, even if it's something ridiculously early like 5 in the morning, he'll find Natsuo sitting out in the hall right across from Akechi's shared bedroom, half dozed off but startling awake when he hears a door open.

He yawns into the air, pushing off the ground with his arms rather than relying on his legs, somehow having managed to bang up both legs before the weekend was over. ]

You're awake, finally! I was waiting for you to get up!

[ Pokes his foot forward to plant his heel on Akechi's sternum and tip him onto the bed. ]

[OH MY GOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENING]

[Akechi's athletic and pretty nimble, but even he doesn't see that coming, so he's going to be successfully shoved onto the bed thanks]

Ha! I won! [ Natsuo breathes a laugh, like he can't believe that worked— but honestly, who would have expected that? nobody is that rude ]

[sits up, looking very undignified because the fall kind of mussed up his hair a bit? but he's quick to flatten it again and adjust his tie, trying to make sure he looks perfectly! crisp!! and put together, thanks]

Do you always kick someone in the chest whenever they're about to point out something mildly embarrassing about your person?

[randori]

No?! [ It's not an offended "NO??" but a sort of... guilty... one. It's a "yes" no. Maybe it's not exactly a kick, but the violent impulses he'd spent two years trying to curb never did get curbed. ]

I'm not embarrassed! Shut up!

[doublecrows]

You realize the only thing I was going to point out is that you made it obvious you injured both legs. . .

[akechi that is not shutting up]

It's not that obvious!! [ Since he can't deny the other part of that sentence... ]

You said you're a detective, right?! It's 'cause you're smart and you're always looking for things and thinking about things, that's how you can tell! I bet normal people wouldn't be able to tell! You're just better than them!

I suppose that's fair! My observational skills are my greatest strength.

Is it really? So you suck at everything else?

Not everything, but there are things at which I am particularly awful. Eating spicy food, for instance.

[ Natsuo laughs, because that's... that's really something. It makes Akechi seem a little more his age, a little more human. ]

Hehe, it hurts and makes your nose run, right? All you gotta do is eat it fast!

[ Show spicy food who's boss! (it's the food. the food is boss and will retaliate with heartburn) ]

If I eat too fast, then I completely miss out on the taste. Although making something too spicy completely drowns that out in the first place.

Hmm~ Not being able to taste something'd be a huge waste, huh? Then, just don't eat spicy stuff. Problem solved, and it's not a weakness anymore.

That's the solution I've embraced all this time. It's allowed me to indulge my sweet tooth.

Heh~ Me too! It's really rare to find a guy who likes sweet things, huh?

Is it? I hardly think that taste is something that should be separated by gender. I'm not ashamed of having a sweet tooth.

[randori]

It shouldn't be, but it's still unexpected. The only guy I know who has a bigger sweet tooth than me is Banchou, and with liking cute things too, it doesn't match his appearance at all. [ Big hulking guy who can smash concrete with his bare hands, crying over a children's cartoon character while eating strawberry cake... ] It's kinda endearing.

What's the saying? Don't judge a book by its cover? I suppose your friend perfectly embodies the phrase.

So, what do you think about having a sleepover sometime? At your place?

To get to know each other better! That's what you do at sleepovers! Eichi said it's okay already, but it's like- [ getting permission from both mom and dad ] ...you know?

[Akechi has never had a sleepover in his life that's why]

I'll keep asking you again until you say yes. I'll listen to any of your terms. Do you not want to?

[ He will keep harassing Akechi until he agrees, essentially. Eichi knows this and that is precisely why he said "Go ask Akechi." ]

[. . . DEEP SIGH, and his response is strained]

It isn't that. [he's pulling up a smile, for the sake of appearances] I was mostly curious. If you and Tenshouin really want a sleepover, then who am I to deny that?

Of course you can deny it. It's your room too!

[ But the freedom of choice is still an illusion, sorry ]
